Arpaillargues: a village with shops

Village

Arpaillargues is a very quaint village with friendly folks and some essential services such as bakery, bar/restaurant, chateau (!), pharmacy and clinic. It’s quiet, yet alive, and living here fulfills the need to slow down and smell the roses (and the lavender, and French cooking aromas, etc.!).

Arpaillargues-et-Aureillac (townhall website) is a French commune located in the east of the Gard department, in the Occitanie region. Arpaillargues-et-Aureillac is a rural commune which had 1,044 inhabitants in 2020, after having experienced a sharp increase in population since 1962, part the Gorges du Gardon territory.  Arpaillargues is located 4 kilometers from Uzès and its inhabitants are called Arpaillargois or Arpaillargoises. The architectural heritage includes buildings protected as historic monuments, such as the Maison Fage (listed in 1964), and also the castle (now a luxury hotel) and the church. As all villages in the area, it is exposed to a Mediterranean climate, with the Les Seynes river and various other small rivers filling up during storms.
